What if the tradition of exchanging red packets can mean more?
Lunar New Year is when many of us in the ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) diaspora exchange red packets (red envelope / Lai See 利是/ Hong Bao 紅包 / Ang Pao) as a symbol of good luck. Join kindredpacket in extending this tradition a little further to those truly in need of support!
This is an open call to all who identify as East/Southeast Asians or celebrate the tradition of Lunar New Year to help raise funds for the wider ESEA community through the spirit of gathering and gift giving.
We are inviting you to initiate meaningful exchanges with your family, friends and everyone else by hosting or participating in gatherings, cookalongs, wellbeing sessions, mahjong parties and everything in between. Here is an opportunity to be immersed in the LNY tradition whilst supporting ESEA voices, charities and businesses. All for a good cause!
Above all, making sure no one ever needs to celebrate this beautiful tradition alone. :)

How Can I Participate?
Host a gathering

This is simply a chance to get together with the people you love and possibly meet people you share an interest with!
Above all, this is for you to do something purely out of excitement. Your offering does not have to relate to your profession.
Also, if you are already organising an event anyway, we hope this can help with amplifying your event to the wider community. -
Gatherings can be a reimagination of whatever you typically get up to over LNY from cookalongs, karaoke or mahjong nights to yoga classes, performances - you name it.
Nothing is too casual, nothing is too grand ;)
We leave it to your discernment on whether you’d like to organise an in person or virtual gathering. If you still need help with ideas, reach out to us on instagram and we can bounce around ideas!
Gatherings should fall within 28 Jan - 15 Feb.

You enjoy hosting your gathering and encourage donations from your guests by end of event.
We divide received donations equally across nominated charities by end of kampaign.

We hope that this kampaign can help amplify ESEA-owned businesses and the great work they do.
Not only a convenient way for you to give back to the wider community, but a chance to engage with fellow traders and businesses as well as potential customers from the wider ESEA community and beyond.

You may want to promote a special LNY product/bundle. You could offer a special code for promotions or discounts. Be as creative as you wish!
You can also have a specific donation pledge if you already know which charity you’d like your proceeds to go towards. Otherwise, we will distribute all general donations equally to the nominated charities. -

Nominate a charity

We hope this kampaign can raise funds for those truly in need. And to do so, we need your help in nominating charities within your network simply because we can’t possibly know of every charity.
The ultimate goal is not necessarily to offer huge amounts of funds, but to help raise awareness of these lesser known charities doing incredible work within our community.

This can be a charity you’re working for or volunteering at.
We are looking particularly for charities or non-profits serving :
- the wider ESEA community
- serving the elderly, children, families
- immigrants or the unhomedThis may extend to a specific individual if they need support for a work in relation to serving any above.

You nominate a charity by 15 Jan via email.
We confirm the final list of charities for our kampaign.
You encourage participation and donation from your network.
We divide the donations equally across nominated charities by end of kampaign.
